Resolution to Recommend the
WHEREAS Honors Day is a special occasion each year in April to recognize the academic achievement of undergraduate students; and WHEREAS the Faculty Senate has framed the Honors Day policy in the Undergraduate Catalog (2004-05, p. 48) to include identifiable benchmarks which make possible the recognition of the achievement of non-traditional, part-time students as well as our more traditional, full-time undergraduates; and WHEREAS the mechanism for this policy has been the number of credit hours (12, 45, or 75) a student needs to have successfully completed with a 3.5 or higher g.p.a. to be recognized each April; and WHEREAS the only opportunity for Honors Day recognition under the current policy is to graduate in May, which unfairly precludes timely recognition of students graduating in August or December in the same calendar year; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Faculty Senate approve a modification in the final benchmark defining undergraduate student eligibility for Honors Day recognition to include all students with a 3.5 or higher g.p.a. who are graduating in any calendar year, by adopting the following changes in the Undergraduate Catalog: Delete: FS0510
