APPENDIX 1Resolution to Modify Existing University Policy
Concerning Calculation of Scholastic Honors
[as amended]WHEREAS recognition of academic achievement is an important and vital factor affecting recruitment and retention of undergraduate students at SIUC; and
WHEREAS it is the goal of this faculty to recognize all undergraduate student for high scholastic achievement through a process that is consistent, equitable, and clearly communicated to and understood by each and every students desiring to be be recognized;
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the faculty senate recommend for adoption the following modified policy for calculation of scholastic honors, and that the 2004 Undergraduate Catalog reflect this change (note that both the Existing Policy and Proposed Modified Policy are provided for comparison):

Each spring semester a Scholastic Honors Day convocation is held to recognize students exhibiting high scholastic achievement. Qualification for recognition is determined at the end of the third week of the spring semester. If, at that time, a full- or part-time student has attained an undergraduate grade point average at SIUC of 3.50 or better and, if applicable, a 3.50 average or better in all-work (including transferred) credit hours, and the student has reached the benchmarks of 12, 45, or 75 credit hours of coursework or is graduating, Scholastic Honors will be awarded and the student will be invited by the university to the next regularly scheduled Honors Day ceremony of that student's respective college. Each academic unit schedules its own convocation, and each Scholastic Honors student is recognized individually on this day.Return to October 9, 2001, Minutes

Internal Reviewers for the 2001-2002 CycleThe Undergraduate Education Policy Committee moves the Faculty Senate approve Academic Affairs’ selection of Internal Degree program reviewers for the 2001-2002 cycle, with the exception of John Mead, director of the Coal Research Center, who fails to satisfy the requirement that internal reviewers be faculty members as stated in "Review Teams and Reports, Section A, internal teams: composition and selection, page 5 of the Academic Program Review: Principles and Procedures" adopted by the Graduate Council in May 1999.
