ATTACHMENT A Resolution on Same-Sex Domestic Partner Benefits WHEREAS SIUC has a non-discrimination policy which prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation, and WHEREAS same-sex domestic partners in exclusive and enduring relationships are denied the right to marriage that holds legal or civil recognition, and WHEREAS SIUC did not extend health benefits to employees who have same-sex domestic partners, and WHEREAS other public and private universities, including the University of Illinois, now provide health benefits to same-sex domestic partners, and WHEREAS statistics show that the cost to institutions providing these benefits is minimal, BE IT RESOLVED that the Faculty Senate endorses the action of the Board of Trustees taken on September 9, 2004, to extend to employees with same-sex domestic partners all health benefits now extended to married partners of employees.
