UNDERGRADUATE EDUCATION POLICY COMMITTEE
ATTACHMENT A

Resolution to Approve an RME to Change the Name of the College of
Agriculture to the College of Agricultural Sciences

WHEREAS the College of Agriculture has, over the past three decades, expanded in an effort to meet the needs of a broader based "agriculture" - an agriculture which has become heavily science based and technology driven, and whereas the college has merged with several new units to further broaden the mission and scope of the college; and

WHEREAS the alumni, students, faculty, department chairs and administration of the College believe that the current name of the College no longer accurately reflects the diversity of the programs offered through the College; and

WHEREAS the proposed name change would enhance recruitment and retention of students, assist the College to achieve diversity, and better position its faculty to compete for external research support, and bring this college in line with changes that are occurring across the nation in institutions similar to SIUC; and

WHEREAS these changes will have no effect on existing programs, curriculums, faculty, or need for additional equipment, budget, and facilities and are supported by the faculty of the College of Agriculture;

BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Faculty Senate approve and recommend to the appropriate administrative bodies this College's request to change its name from the College of Agriculture to the College of Agricultural Sciences; and that the 2003-2004 SIUC Undergraduate and Graduate Catalogs be edited in all instances appropriate to reflect this change: effective Spring semester 2002.
